As part of the overarching MV2040 Strategy, Moonee Valley Council is developing an open space strategy to guide investment in open space to support liveability as the population rapidly grows in the municipality. Mosaic Insights have been engaged (with REALMstudios and Capire) to bring an innovative, data-driven approach to understanding the distribution of green space, ecologies, and people and informing open space planning in a completely new way.
As part of this engagement we have created unique spatial layers combining various social data metrics to gain a new understanding of open space prioritisation. Factors analysed include population density combined with walkability, and a street tree cover network to identify which streets have deficits of shade. This information will be used to optimise open space in the Moonee Valley City Council for those who need it most.
