Mosaic Insights was first engaged by NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) in 2021 alongside Truii to develop a public-facing PowerBI dashboard for DPE’s Urban Development Program (UDP). The UDP aims to improve the accessibility, transparency, and usefulness of urban development data for government and industry.
We first developed a UDP dashboard for Greater Sydney, bringing together disparate industry, local government and state government datasets pertaining to demographics and development throughout Greater Sydney, for the first time.
The Greater Sydney UDP Dashboard garnered great feedback from users across government and industry and served as the template for the rollout of four further UDP Dashboards:
- Greater Newcastle
- Capital Region
- Illawarra-Shoalhaven
- North Coast
We were asked by DPE to develop the Greater Newcastle, Capital and Illawarra-Shoalhaven dashboards—adapting visuals, structure and functionality for each region. For the Illawarra-Shoalhaven dashboard, we implemented enhanced mapping functionality using R and the custom PowerBI visualisation Icon Map. This custom web mapping solution featured enhanced tooltips, symbolisation, and multiple, selectable layers; pushing the capabilities of the visualisation far beyond what a map in PowerBI typically possesses.
