Seventeen Seventy Coastal Adaptation and Resilience Plan
We supported Gladstone Regional Council in developing a Coastal Adaptation and Resilience Plan for Seventeen Seventy by combining coastal science with community engagement to prioritise nature-based solutions for managing climate and coastal risks.

Gladstone Regional Council aimed to develop a Coastal Adaptation and Resilience Plan (CARP) to address coastal hazard impacts on foreshore assets in Seventeen Seventy. The goal was to plan for and adapt to the potential risks posed by coastal changes and climate impacts.
Mosaic Insights applied an integrated approach, combining coastal science and engineering evidence with in-depth community engagement. The community values-led approach informed the development of a shared vision and adaptation priorities for Seventeen Seventy, emphasizing the cultural and environmental importance of the area. The community expressed a preference for nature-based solutions and adaptation measures that blend modern living with the natural environment.
We conducted a vulnerability assessment for key assets and prioritized interventions using Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) and alternative methods. The recommended management options prioritized nature-based solutions over engineered responses where feasible, with the approach adaptable for broader regional use.
