Nature-based solutions
Our work focuses on the integration of natural processes and ecosystems to address challenges such as climate change, flooding, air quality and biodiversity loss. Our nature-based specialists develop strategies and plans to deliver environmental benefits, improve urban resilience, enhance the well-being of residents and promote sustainable development.
Assessment & Planning of Nature-Based Solutions
Our work involves the identification of environmental challenges (eg flooding, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, urban heat islands) and delivery of ecological, economic and social impact assessments. We develop sustainable strategies tailored to specific landscapes and communities. Most of our work involves assessing the environmental challenges facing a region; whether it be flooding, soil erosion, biodiversity decline, or the intensifying effects of urban heat. Our approach combines ecological, economic, and social impact assessments to create an evidence base for decision making. By examining these interconnected pressures through a systems lens, we identify not only risks but also opportunities for enhancing resilience and liveability. This enables our nature-based consultants to design strategies that are deeply tailored to specific landscapes and communities, balancing ecological integrity with economic viability and social benefit.
Design & Implementation of Nature-Based Solutions
Drawing on the expertise of the broader Alluvium Group, we move from planning into action, designing and delivering practical solutions that embed nature into the heart of cities, towns, and landscapes. Our projects range from wetlands that manage floodwaters while creating new habitats, to urban forests and green corridors that cool and connect neighborhoods, through to mangrove and dune restoration that buffers coastal communities against storms and sea-level rise. Our nature-based consultants work closely with governments, businesses, NGOs, and developers to integrate these approaches into major policies and projects. By applying techniques such as reforestation, agroforestry, and ecosystem restoration at multiple scales, we help deliver interventions that are scientifically robust, socially inclusive, and capable of creating long-term environmental and economic value.
Stakeholder Engagement of Nature-Based Solutions
We believe that lasting change comes from collaboration, and a significant part of our work focuses on engaging people in shaping solutions. We build strong partnerships with local communities, Traditional Owners, and key stakeholders to ensure projects reflect shared priorities, cultural values, and lived realities. Our engagement goes beyond consultation where we co-design initiatives that foster ownership, capacity-building, and stewardship. Our nature-based consultants are highly experienced in leading consultation efforts with government, NGO’s and community groups
Policy support for Nature-Based Solutions
Scaling nature-based solutions requires strong, forward looking policy frameworks. Our nature-based consultants support governments and organisations by embedding scientific evidence, international best practice, and systems thinking into policy development. Our work includes synthesising complex data into clear and actionable recommendations, aligning regulatory frameworks with local and national climate priorities, and advising on funding and investment pathways to accelerate implementation. By bridging the gap between research, practice, and policy, we help decision-makers design governance arrangements that enable nature-based solutions to thrive at scale.
Industry leadership
Our nature-based solution consultants are industry leaders who are known for their deep expertise and knowledge in their field. They bring a thorough understanding of industry trends, technologies and best practices.
