The Department of Planning and Environment’s (DPE) Urban Development Program (UDP) aims to improve the accessibility and transparency of urban development data for government and industry stakeholders. The program sought to create a public-facing dashboard to integrate and present various datasets across Greater Sydney and other regions.

Mosaic Insights, in partnership with Truii, was engaged in 2021 to develop a PowerBI dashboard for the UDP. The initial project focused on Greater Sydney, integrating demographic and development data from local, state, and industry sources. The success of the Greater Sydney UDP Dashboard led to the expansion of the project to Greater Newcastle, Capital, and Illawarra-Shoalhaven regions.

For the Illawarra-Shoalhaven dashboard, Mosaic Insights implemented advanced mapping features using R and the custom PowerBI Icon Map, providing interactive, multi-layered maps with enhanced tooltips and symbolization, significantly improving the visual and functional capabilities of the dashboard.
