urban greening and cooling

We believe nature in cities plays a critical role in both community wellbeing and ecological health. We develop strategies and plans for urban forests, greening and cooling, and apply advanced urban climate models and spatial analysis to inform climate-water-biodiversity sensitive urban and landscape design.

  • Urban greening

We have been delivering urban forestry research and planning projects for the past five years in Victoria and NSW. Our team provides services for the collection and analysis of urban forest data (including tree and vegetation information, social, infrastructure and environmental), the integration of urban forest outcomes into capital works at the local and regional scale, engagement of communities and capacity building for local governments to plan for and manage their urban forest now and into the future. We work with trusted partners to deliver technical arboricultural advice. We have provided strategic social and biophysical advice, evidence and evaluation services to governments and industry across Victoria, the ACT, Qld and NSW on trees, canopy and greening through projects such as the NSW Greener Neighborhoods Guide, Improving Water Efficiency through Landscaping for BASIX, Which Plant Where Adoption Project and multiple design and management projects.

  • Urban heat and cooling

We are at the forefront of urban heat management and research, with connections to academics and new approaches to understanding and managing heat. We help our clients gather and analyse data for managing urban heat and cooling. We work with trusted partners to gather and analyse urban heat data for the appropriate scale, rigour and audience. We work with government and non-government organisations to describe the impact of urban heat on people and places, unearth evidence from the literature to guide decisions and provide recommendations. We have delivered guidance: via the Microclimate Assessment Guide (ACT), evidence: via the baseline public domain heat measurement (ACT), assessment: of heat risk for NSW urban centres, of heat and greening for Monash University, of heat and community vulnerability and modelling for agencies and developers on impact of different urban typologies.

  • Nature-based tourism

We provide a range of services to support nature-based tourism, including the assessment of market potential, nature-based ‘prescriptions’ for health outcomes, greenspace planning and land management strategies, regional cycle and walking trails, tourism and food security and indigenous land management.
